Chai Mitzvah Teen Shabbat Lunch ‘n Learn

Our teens (post-b’nai mitzvah) meet twice a month, following Shabbat morning services, for discussion on peer-selected topics based on the Chai Mitzvah program, facilitated by Yosef Kadegan. It is designed for post- b’nei mitzvah students.

Born and raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, Yosef Kagedan attended Yeshivat Noam for elementary and middle school and Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC) for high school. Growing up, he loved being involved in a variety of Jewish youth organizations including NCSY, Bnei Akiva, and HaZamir. Yosef then attended Yeshivat Eretz HaTzvi for his gap year in Israel, where he honed his Jewish learning skills and deep love of Israel.

He earned a B.A. in Psychology and Minor in Music from Rutgers University-New Brunswick, and recently returned to the Banks of The Old Raritan to pursue a Master of Social Work degree. Yosef is a longtime member of Kol HaLayla, Rutgers’ Jewish acapella group, and was its Music Director from 2019-2020. He feels most connected to Judaism through music, as he is an avid and experienced Chazan and Ba’al Korei.

His favorite Jewish topics are Jewish History, Tanach, Jewish Philosophy, and Tefilah. Yosef has worked in a variety of educational settings and positions, from Archery Specialist at Moshava Ba’Ir New Jersey, to Counselor at Camp Middlesex, to General Classroom Paraeducator at a rural public middle school, to Upper Elementary Teaching Intern at Yeshivat Netivot Montessori.

Mazel Tots

Toddlers through kindergartners, along with their “significant others” – parents, grandparents, are welcome to drop in on one of our monthly Sunday morning Mazel Tots programs. A bagel brunch, a Jewish-themed story and a craft, and schmooze time provide a unique opportunity for adults and children to make new friends and connect with our community.

Torah Time, with Dr. Marlene Herman and assisted by Ezra Kress, meets at 10:30 AM every Shabbat morning and Yom Tov. Interactive story-telling creates a wonderful way to introduce children to Torah.
