Youth Services

Torah Time

For young children and their parent/guardian/other adult. At 10:30 on Shabbat mornings, Dr. Marlene Herman leads our youngest children in singing, playing games, reading Torah, and enjoying activities and snacks related to the weekly Torah portion. On holiday mornings, they also learn different traditions and songs for that holiday. The program is appropriate for children through age 6; young children should be accompanied by an adult.

Dr. Herman is the recipient of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism Baalot Mitzvah award for education and the Keter Shem Tov award from New Jersey Region of United Synagogue.

While Dr. Herman enjoys her summer elsewhere, parents and Ezra will continue Torah Time, guided by Dr. Herman’s lesson plans.

Mini-Minyan

Mini Minyan is a slow-paced abridged Shabbat morning and Yom Tov service with the goal of creating a solid understanding of the service for children. Led by Leah Zinder, our youth engagement coordinator, and Gamliel Nelkin, our Mini Minyanaires learn about the different prayers and their movements, with opportunities to ask questions and develop a personal understanding. Children are generally aged 6 – 12 and attend without being accompanied by an adult. In order to participate fully, Mini Minyanaires are encouraged to have basic English reading skills, the ability to follow directions and curiosity to keep up within the discussion.
