Livnot
![]() | Construction is ongoing, but we are still $500,000 short of our fundraising goal. Can you help? |
On Thursday, August 24, 2006, an electrical fire erupted in the basement of the Highland Park Conservative Temple. The fire destroyed the sanctuary, Kroll Auditorium, and much of the basement. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Although the fire was devastating, it also provided us with an opportunity. Rather than restoring the synagogue exactly as it had been we undertook to raise additional funds to completely rebuild our Temple for the twenty-first century.
The image below shows the floor plan for our new building.

Key elements of our plan are:
- An east-facing sanctuary with amphitheater-style seating and clear lines of sight to encourage participation.
- A new social hall with space for sit-down affairs for up to 250 people
- A new lobby and pre-function area
- A brand new library and media center
- The Legacy Room, housing historical items from the Highland Park Conservative Temple and Center and Congregation Anshe Emeth.
- A Beit Midrash for Shabbat and Yom Tov alternate services, as well as weekday minyan.
- A brand new, state of the art facility for the Above and Beyond Child Care Center.
We started our fundraising project campaign in early 2007, and to date we have raised almost $3 million towards the project, to supplement the insurance settlement. This sum leaves us $500,000 short of our goal. If you have not joined the over 200 people who have made a pledge for Livnot, please contact us to make your pledge.

Our new sanctuary was completed in time for Rosh Hashana, 2009, and we have begun construction on the second phase of the project, which involves redoing the administrative offices, building the Beit Midrash, and constructing the Day Care Center. You can follow the progress of the construction by viewing the photo albums posted here on our web site and on our Facebook page.
We look forward to our gala dedication which is schedule for Lab B'Omer, May 12, 2010.
