HotHouse

Nearly 10,000 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons, described by one Fatah leader as de facto "universities of Palestinian nationalism." On Saturday, February 7th, at 8:00 P.M., we will screen a film that explores this chilling and fascinating phenomenon. Granted rare permission to record life in Israel's highest-security facilities, documentary filmmaker Shimon Dotan weaves together interviews with Israeli prison guards, leaders of Hamas and Fatah, a female suicide bomber, and others.

Immediately after the screening, Eran Kaplan, Lecturer on Israel Studies at Princeton and an Associate Professor of Modern Jewish History at the University of Cincinnati, will explore issues raised by the film. He will provide an update on the current status of Palestinian prisoners in light of the recent schism between Fatah and Hamas.

"HotHouse" runs run 89 minutes and is in Hebrew and Arabic with English subtitles. The screening and talk are open to the public at no charge, with a $5 donation suggested but not required.
