Jewish and Christian Origins: New Directions in Scholarship by Azzan Yadin
It has been long accepted that Christianity is the offspring of Judaism, but how accurate is this view? Recent scholarship, with its emphasis on the varieties of Judaism and the relationship between the early church and Judaism, suggests that the historical reality was more complex. Combining an historical survey of late Second Temple Judaism, the Judaism of the time of Jesus, with close readings from the New Testament and rabbinic sources, Prof. Yadin sheds new light on this important period.
